Antenna Wire - 'Silky' type are CQ Originals
501 18 AWG solid copper-clad steel (30%). The most economical and versatile antenna wire. Strong enough for any HF dipole (tensile strength 225 pounds) and as light and easy to use as stranded. Popular for loops, curtains, longwires, counterpoise and experimental. Not to be confused with the 'quarter-mile reel' or 'bargain', which is usually low percentage copper, single- season electric fence wire.
504 16 AWG solid copper clad steel (30%), high strength (295 lbs BS). Fills the gap between 18 and 14 AWG for a more permanent antenna without the higher cost and weight of 14 or 12 AWG. Fabricated and fatory spooled on large reels, making it run close to straight for antenna work. 504 joins 501, 502, and 503 as the longest lived performers in any environment in the antenna business.
502 14 AWG solid copper clad steel (30%). The best choice for long-lived, high performance antennas in any environment. Breaking strength 450#. fabricated and coiled on large diameter reels to retain a 'memory' of close to straight for easy assembly, it does have a bit of a 'mind of its own', making it somewhat tough to work with, but well worth the effort as the best propagator and longest lived.
503 12 AWG solid copper clad steel (30%). A 30% larger and almost 60% heavier wire than 14AWG. Overkill for most amateur uses for antennas in the clear, but in cases where the National Electric Code is applicable, it is the proper choice. Builders should check the laws as they relate to antennas in their community before putting themselves at legal risk.
511 Historically the most popular. Found in most of the kits on the market, it is popular with Amateurs as being easier to use than solid wire. The Certified Quality product is engineered as antenna wire with 7 strands of copper-clad steel (30%) in a short and tight lay to approach solid in propagation performance. #511 has high break strength, minimal stretch and a large reel 'memory'.
516 'Silky' 12 AWG, 19 strand, tinned, copper-clad steel. Smooth as silk, tight lay, engineered antenna wire as close to solid performance as possible, but flexible and easy to use. Our heaviest - overkill for most work. Break strength over 500#.
519 'Silky' 16 AWG, 19 strand, tinned, copper-clad steel. Designed as a replacement for restringing quads, but popular as an easy-to-use dipole wire.
523 'Silky' 14 AWG, 19 strand, tinned, copper-clad steel (40%). Most popular of the 'silky' type, probably because of the traditional size
531 Toughcoat 'Silky' 13 AWG, 19 strand copper-clad steel with tough, high density, low-gloss polyethylene. Designed for through-the-trees, sea coast, acid rain or other inclement atmospheric conditions. Our most rugged, longest-lived, stranded antenna wire for any purpose. Jacket has minimal effect on performance - less than that of a year's accumulation of oxidation product on bare wire, with less noise.
532 The best of the rugged, stranded, coated antenna wires (CQ 531, 13AWG ccs wl/i-density PE jacket) now has a new brother, CQ 532, with 18AWG "silky" conductor. This group of antenna wire, including the CQ 534 26AWG "stealth," is the most popular addition in this field in years! (100 ft only $15.00)
534 'Invisible' Toughcoat 'Silky' 26 AWG, 19 strand copper-clad steel with with the same jacket as 531, but super small for that 'low profile' antenna or pocket 'weekender' long wire. weighs less than one pound per 1000 feet!
541 14 AWG, 7 strand hard drawn copper in the same lay as #511. Preferred by some builders, it is a bit more malleable, easy to work, but not as stretch resistant or break resistant as copper-clad steel.
542 FLEXWEAVE™ 14 AWG, 168 strand bare copper ultra-flexible antenna wire. Highly versatile rope-lay wire that won't kink or tangle. Can be tied and untied to insulators without soldering. Popular for portable, week-ender, backpack antennas.
543 FLEXWEAVE™ 12 AWG, 259 strand bare copper ultra-flexible antenna wire as above, for heavier applications.
